These are held twice a year in Langcliffe Village Institute, usually in May and September, from 2 p.m. until around 4.30, when choir members volunteer to bake cakes, scones etc and prepare other delicacies such as trifles. Choir members also staff the stalls to serve the tea/coffee/fruit juice and cakes on the day.
There are five prizes, and 500 raffle tickets are printed and distributed to choir members to sell for £1 each. Tickets are also sold at the Langcliffe Teas and at our concerts. The prizes usually comprise cheese and wine, a Christmas Champagne Hamper, a meal or other voucher and the top prizes are worth £100 and £200. The draw takes place at the last rehearsal before our December concert
Come & Sing Events
These take place usually during the early part of the year.
Past events have led to performances of pieces such as the Armed Man,
Opera choruses and Handel's Messiah
A subscription of £12 a year is paid for the chance of winning a prize of £20 every other month. The number of entrants is limited to 200 though in practice it’s a lot fewer than
that so the chances of winning are pretty good.
